Many insurance companies already refuse to cover circumcision, calling it a cosmetic surgery. There are many reasons that parents cite for choosing to circumcise their newborn boys but choosing to circumcise your child is something you should think long and hard about. Studies have shown that there is NO medical reason (in most cases) to preform this traumatic surgery. And even the cosmetic reasons are loosing credit. In many places in the US the rate of circumcision is around 50% and falling so your son will no longer be the only one in the locker room who is uncircumcised. There are still religious reasons that guide parents to make this decision but if the only reason you were considering it was for cosmetic or medical reasons- THINK AGAIN!

I am a homebirth midwife-wanna be in Austin! 🙂 And I could not agree MORE with your above statements. There will be a day, it is coming, where it will be as illegal to circumcise your son as it is now to circumcise your daughter. I am part of the intactivist movement- it is so important we tell everyone we can the benefits of having an intact, whole, natural penis. And the risks of circumcision, which includes infection at surgery site, loss of more than the foreskin, including the risk of the total amputation of the penis, to even death. More babies have died from being circumcised than the number who have died as a result of sleeping in a drop side crib, and those have been banned. Come on America, wake up and stop mutilating baby boys!!

I am a man who was circumcised as a baby and I really wish I wasn’t . I wish I had the choice to experience sex as it was intended. I wish I had the choice.
Those who promote child genital mutilation as essential on religious grounds should also consider everything else found acceptable in biblical times: such as, slavery and concubinage, stoning of adulterers, child labour, death/slavery/castration for men on the losing side in battle, forced copulation with your deceased brother’s widow, buying/selling of women, etc. No, send religious genital mutilation to the garbage bin of history, where it belongs.
………. There is a movement of Jews who are questioning circumcision, and working to end this abuse of children. The movement ranges from the Orthodox to the secular, and includes mothers, fathers, scholars, historians, medical professionals, activists, and intellectuals.
